Zernek Castle
Built in the 17th century by a branch of the rulers (emirs, beys) of Hakkari, in the village of Zernek (Hamurkesen) in Gürpınar district, Van province. A mosque in the village is from the same period. Closeby there is also a cemetery with beautifully ornamented graves of the beys, partly destroyed by gold hunters. Photos taken in 2012.
