Muş central district

While the northern half of the central district of Muş, including the provincial capital, is situated in the extensive Muş plain, the southern half is mountainous country, part of the Eastern Taurus chain. Behind the first mountain range lies a broad valley, like the plain stretching from west to east.  More to the south the valleys become deeper, the mountain slopes steeper. Although the mountains of the area are not exceptionally high (Mount Andok, the highest mountain of the region reaches about 2,800) this is wild, inaccessible terrain. The villages in the area are sometimes cut off from the outside world for weeks.
