On the slopes of the Nemrut Dağ

The Nemrut Dağ (not to be confused with its namesake in ancient Commagene, north of Adıyaman) is an extinct volcano at the northwestern tip of Lake Van.

On its northern slope, with an excellent view on the barren landscape, the lake and the town of Ahlat, stands a lonely Armenian church, or rather chapel, remains of a monastery that once flourished here. The church might date from the 14th century.
